Outdoor Dance Programme
Dancing Towards London 2012
DanceXchange (dx), in partnership with Regional Dance Agencies DanceFest, Dancescape and Dudley Performing Arts, is leading on a substantial new Outdoor Dance Programme created for public spaces around the West Midlands from Summer 2011 to the end of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Autumn 2012. The project forms a major strand of the Dancing for the Games programme, connecting people with London 2012 through dance.
PLAYGROUND (working title) is an exciting commission by celebrated Australian Artist, Shaun Parker (of Shaun Parker Company) created specifically for parks, taking dance to the heart of the region’s communities. This exciting commission will use existing children’s playground equipment as the set, creating a family-friendly performance piece that will tour to playgrounds across the West Midlands.
Workshops
Cross-curricular workshops will also be available to engage and excite people in the performance/event. These are one-offs and can last from 1-2hours.
Residencies
Residencies will be available to schools (nursery and primary), young people’s groups (local youth centres, adventure playgrounds, youth dance companies, sure start centres) and general community groups, giving them the opportunity to create and develop material based around the themes of the project, and allowing them the opportunity to perform alongside the professional company in a curtain raiser type of performance.
